A blend of beauty and elegance, Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929 in Belgium, Brussels to J. A. Hepburn-Ruston and Baroness Ella van Heemstra. Her father was a Banker and mother a Baroness. Audrey Hepburn biography
tells that her real name was Audrey Kathleen Ruston. She was only eight years old when her father left them. She lived with her mother and brothers in Holland. In te world war II they had lost everything and sometimes they even slept empty stomach. As a result, she suffered from depression, malnutrition and anorexia later. LAter she went to London, learnt ballet dancing and did modelling. For supporting her family, she accepted small roles in films and on stage. She was discovered by French novelist Colette in Monte Carlo, who cast her in Gigi, a Broadway production theatre show. This brought her to limelite and ten came her debut film Roman Holiday in 1953 opposite Gregory Peck. She even won Best Actress Oscar for this role. Later she was seen in movies like Funny Face (1957), Sabrina (1954), Love in the Afternoon, The Nun's Story (1959), Breakfast at Tiffany's and My Fair Lady. Audrey Hepburn biography reveals that she married twice, in 1960 to American actor Mel Ferrer, with whom she had a son Sean and then in 1970 to Italian doctor Andrea Dotti and had a son Luca. She was appointed as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF till 1993 and worken in Africa, Latin America and Bangladesh also. In 1993 she was diagnosed with appendicular cancer and she died on 20 January, 1993 in Switzerland.

The movie received critical acclaim and was a blockbuster hit too. Warner Brothers paid $1 million to Audrey Hepburn for her role as Eliza Doolittle, a flower seller from slums. The movie was nominated for twelve Academy Awards of which eight oscars went to it including Best Picture and Best Director.
