Making healthy meals need not be a time consuming process. Cooking easy healthy meals hardly takes any time, it just needs some preparation. Ensure that you always have a stock of fresh vegetables and fruits in your fridge. Keep fruits and vegetables sliced and ready, so that while cooking, you can simply take them out of the refrigerator and use them. Make small changes to your diet like eating a fresh vegetable salad before a meal or switching from butter to olive oil when cooking. There are many easy healthy meals options available in cook books and the internet which can be incorporated in daily life.

Eating healthy foods ensures that nutritious food is being consumed which promotes good health. Eating fruits and vegetables is integral to staying healthy. They are low in calories and high in nutrients like vitamins, iron, antioxidants, fiber, etc. Eating whole grains like oatmeal, whole wheat bread, and brown rice is also good for the health and can prevent type 2 diabetes and heart diseases. Eating healthy foods does not mean giving up oil and fat. Rather healthy unsaturated oil and fat help improve cholesterol level in the body. They are found in olive, soy, corn, sunflower, peanut, nuts, avocados, etc. Fish, poultry and eggs are protein rich. Fish contains omega-3 fats which decrease the risk of heart disease. Dairy products like milk, cheese, yogurt, etc, are rich in calcium and help in keeping bones strong.

A healthy food plan should have a balanced and complete diet. It is not easy to change food habits and start eating healthy in a day therefore key to sticking to a healthy food plan is to be realistic and set reasonable diet goals. Start by eating 4-6 small meals and snacks in a day. All your meals should include fresh fruits and vegetables. While snacking also they should be the first choice. You should also eat a lot of whole grain cereals, low-fat dairy products, low fat meats, fish and skinless poultry.
