Margaret Thatcher biography starts with the birth of Margaret Hilda Roberts on 13th October 1925, in Lincolnshire. Her father was a grocer and active in local politics, serving as an alderman. Thatcher graduated from Somerville College, Oxford in 1947. During her college years Thatcher became the President of the Oxford University Conservative Association. After graduation, Thatcher worked as research chemist for a company in Essex and started participating in local politics. Leaders of Conservative party were so impressed with her that she was selected as the Conservative party candidate for Dartford. Thatcher campaigned for the Dartford seat in February 1950 and October 1951 elections but lost both times. In December 1951, Margaret Roberts married Denis Thatcher, a successful businessman. Two years later she qualified as a barrister and became mother to twins, Carol and Mark. Margaret Thatcher biography reached a turning point, when she became Member of Parliament in 1959 and subsequently leader of Conservative party in 1975. In 1979, Conservative party won the general elections and Thatcher became UK’s first woman Prime Minister. Thatcher remained the Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, leading the nation for more than a decade. However in 1990, she was forced to resign due to discontent over her leadership within the party. Thatcher has been named as the ‘Most Competent Prime Minister' in the last 30 years by an Ipsos Mori survey.

The film also stars Academy Award-winner Jim Broadbent as Denis Thatcher and Alexandra Roach and Harry Lloyd play the young Margaret and Dennis, respectively.
