Muhammad Ali is one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, who has the pride of winning 56 out of the total 61 matches he had played. He was honored as ‘The Sportsman of the Century’ by Sports Illustrated and ‘Sports Personality of the Century’ by BBC.

Recognized as a legendary boxer, a humanitarian and a philanthropist, Muhammad Ali’s biography has been penned down by many. Muhammad Ali was born as Cassius Clay and later changed his name when he joined the nation of Islam. Many Muhammad Ali’s biographies describe that he had begun his boxing training with Joe Martin, a police officer and at the same time also training under another experienced trainer, Fred Stoner. Under expert guidance, he won six Golden Glove titles, National title in Amateur Athletic Union and an Olympic gold medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics. He retired from his career when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He has donated generously for the research and treatment of Parkinson’s disease and has also helped feed millions of hungry people.

Muhammad Ali’s Life Story Revealed

Like with many achievers, Muhammad Ali’s life story reveals an event that turned out to be a turning point. It happened when he was twelve years old. A thief had stolen Muhammad Ali’s bicycle and he was so furious that he wanted to beat up the thief. When he expressed his desire to the police officer, Joe Martin, he had supposedly advised Muhammad Ali to learn to fight before challenging anyone. Thus began his boxing practice with the police officer who trained young boxers. He started his boxing career in 1954, when he won his debut title. After that, the young boxer went on bagging one title after another, traveling to Rome, Italy and other places to compete against professional boxers. A better understanding of Muhammad Ali’s life story is possible by reading the boxer’s autobiographies. Muhammad Ali’s autobiography 'The Greatest: My own story' was written in 1975 with Richard Durham and another in 2004 with his daughter Hana Yasmeen Ali.

Muhammad Ali Boxing Style

Muhammad Ali's boxing was known for being unorthodox and the boxer was famous for boasting about his triumphs beforehand.  He had described his boxing style against Sonny Liston thus: ‘float like a butterfly and sting like a bee’. Muhammad Ali boxing style included terrific hand speed and frequent foot movements. He had great courage, and the ability to withstand power and maintain energy levels even when he was hurt. A biographical movie was made on Muhammad Ali in 2001, to honor the legendary boxer.
